At
the Golden Dragon, students run the gamut from elementary-aged
children to senior citizens and persons with physical limitations.
They teach everyone. Some students like Ju Jitsu (the arts of gentleness)
and self defense. Others like the more aggressive techniques and
conditioning as in Judo, using throws and grappling arts.
There
is a lot going on at Golden Dragon, and on certain days there can
be several simultaneous classes with students intently listening
to their instructors. Lanny Reed teaches Dan Zan Ryu Judo and JuJitsu,
"an effective system of self defense that incorporates physical
and mental training within a philosophy of ethical and moral development."
Dan
Zan Ryu is the largest and most popular system of Ju Jitsu in the
United States. It teaches throwing, grappling, choking, arm and
leg locks, wrist locks, come-along techniques, as well as the typical
punching and kicking and a few weapons. It is strictly a self defense
system for anyone.
Reed
has trained in Shorinji Ryu Karate, Tae Kwon Do Karate, and holds
internationally recognized black belts in Hakko Ryu Ju Jitsu, first
degree, a second degree black belt in Dan Zan Ryu Ju Jitsu, a fifth
degree black belt in USJA Ju Jitsu and a fifth degree black belt
in Judo. He has more than 35 years of martial arts experience. He
is an internationally recognized law enforcement instructor and
certified police fitness instructor.
