and Lanny Reed are both certified Cardio Karate/Kickboxing aerobics instructors
at the Golden Dragon. Lanny taught Cardio Karate/Kickboxing long before
the TaeBo craze introduced by Hollywood martial artist and actor Billy
Blanks. As instructors with the National Association of Professional Martial
Artists, they receive new routines and ideas each month to add variety
to the cardio workouts and prevent boredom.
According
to kickboxing proponents, the aerobic activity can burn more calories
in one hour than any other activity. Muscle and Fitness magazine rates
it the No. 1 fat burner with the potential to burn more than 800 calories
per hour.
"At
the Golden Dragon, we combine both rhythm classes with bag classes," Lanny
said. "A bag class gives more meaning to the workout with the actual punching
and kicking of special training bags. This along with other routines gives
the class more variety and helps achieve a toned body." Other benefits
include flexibility, balance, increased blood circulation, as well as
building self-confidence.
Many families come to train at the Golden Dragon and the Cardio Karate
program. The Cardio Kickboxing class is an excellent way to relieve stress.
In a martial arts class a student is so involved in the workout, they
forget their troubles. Deb's cardio program runs from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday
and Thursdays at the Liberty Mutual Building, 1500 Sycamore Road, Montoursville,
and is suitable for all ages. More information about the class is available
